Visiting Gross Rohrheim

We went to visit our old neighbors Sunday night. We had so much fun talking, drinking coffee and having lots and lots of yummy German Desserts. Simone is the best hostess. She had such a wonderful variety of nice German cakes and lots and lots of Berliners for the kids. Berliners are not people who live in Berlin.. They are a filled donut that are special during the Fasching Season. Fasching is the German Mardi Gras. We had planned on going to a parade before we went to their house, but the weather was really aweful. Oh well.. February in Germany... What can you expect.
But, we had a really wonderful time with them. We have missed them so much! Though it was really weird to see them and not walk home across the street afterward. I could barely even look at our old house! It was just such a wonderful place to live and we had the best time there. Such wonderful memories!

Girl Scouts- Thinking Day

Katie's Girl Scout Troop participated in World Thinking Day this weekend. Her troop did a presentation on malaria in Kenya. They made their own mosquito repellent and nets. And, as you can see, dressed up as mosquitoes. She also learned about a few other countries, like India, Germany, Swaziland and Ireland. They collected pins from each country and made passports that they had stamped in each country. She had lots of fun.

100th Day of School

TODAY IS THE 100th DAY OF SCHOOL!!!

It is so hard to believe that August has been going to the big school for so long! But I can tell how very much he has grown up and how much he is learning. He really loves all of his classmates!
Who invented this 100th day of school thing anyway? Sounds like just another way to get through the long boring days of winter! And another project for parents to try to come up with.. and be creative with! This year we went with 100 Swedishfish! August only ate a few... Katie used jelly beans for hers in Kindergarten... most of them fell off.. But this year I like to think I have become a little bit of a smarter Kindergarten Mom.. We hot glued them on... OK.. so August didn't get to make it completely himself... But hopefully he will get there with 100 fish!

A Busy Wednesday

Katie had a dentist appointment. It turned out to be a very long visit... 2 and a half hours! She was an excellent patient though. The dentist was not getting very good x rays and didn't want to fix her cavity with out knowing exactly what it looked like inside the tooth. He is a very kind and patient dentist. He said Katie did really well. She was so exhausted afterward! She took a long nap!

August loves to Read!

August loves to read!

August has become quite the little reader. Yesterday, we went to the library and he checked out the book "The KettleShip Pirates". It is a pretty cute book. It is a little beyond his level, so I thought he was just looking at the pictures.. but then I saw him using his "reading finger" and he read " I don't like heights". I was so proud of him! It is awesome as a parent to see your children loving to read and doing it when ever they have free time!

Snow Fun!

We are definitely having winter this year!!

Yesterday we had the ultimate snowball fight. The snow wall was started by our neighbors . Then we went out and helped finish the wall and made lots and lots of snow balls. It was great packing snow. Really, really wet and heavy.

The battle was boys against girls. It lots of fun. Sadly, the snow has turned to rain this morning.

Here I am.. trying to start blogging.... I keep thinking it will be a great way to let all of our family know what we are up to when we are so far away from home.... The only catch is that I have to actually learn about how to do this.. and I have to remember to do it...Lets hope we can get this to work..

Today, we were hanging out with our friends.. Aaron had gone away on a ski retreat with our church. Owen and his Friend Lexi had set up a little viewing area at the Novotny's house to watch the snow as it fell. Later that afternoon we went bowling with our friends. The kids did really well. Owen and Abby won together,, they we
re a bit of a team.. (when one lost interest the other played...)

We even went to a slumber party this weekend! See, we can have fun without Papa! Lucy was turning 5! She had the cutest Hello Kitty Cake! She thought so to,, until the Sparkler in the shape of a 5 was lit! I just had to include the pictures of that because they were too funny!
